Quick Summary
- Web 2.5 is necessary for the unified transition of companies from Web 2 to Web 3. Web 3 is a flawed model right now to carry out Web 2 operations. The Web 2.5 companies will use Web 3 and Web 2 products to increase Web 3 adoptions.

What are Web 1 and Web 2?
Web 1 was the early internet where the content was created mainly by companies. It was s a content delivery network (CDN) that enabled the showcase of the piece of information on the static websites.
Now we live in the era of Web 2 where more than 84% of the content is user generated. Take YouTube, Meta, Instagram, and Twitter. None of these companies generate their original content. Not only is the content user generated but the timeline of these websites is based on user interests. My YouTube homepage might be different from yours because I like to watch TED talks, and you might be interested in WWE videos. The algorithm learns the user interest and sorts the content accordingly.
Web 2 is the updated version of the internet we have but it has its issues. Even though most of the content is generated by the users, the users don’t own anything. The Twitter account of Donald Trump, former US president, was taken down because Twitter simply has the power to do it.
Problems of Web 3
Web 3 gives users ownership of their content. The IP, DNS (ENS), content, and rest of the things are on blockchain and are treated as NFTs. Since a user owns these NFTs in the crypto wallet, no one else can access those.
The problem with Web 3 is that there are not as many internet and blockchain-educated people out there. And this is just one of the barriers to adopting this technology. Moreover, Web 3 involves a consensus mechanism and open-sourced structures, including DAOs which might not be acceptable for the current business models. Web 2 performs complex functions that Web 3 is not yet capable and credible enough to execute.
Web 2.5: The transition we need
When we combine the qualities Web 2 and Web 3 we get what we now call Web 2.5. It will act as a bridge between blockchain-based Web 3 and the internet we have today, Web 2. With this new approach, users will be able to use the Web 3 assets inside the Web 2 infrastructure. Since it is hard to completely shift to a newer version of the internet altogether, therefore web 2.5 is the transition we need.
Binance, Opensea, and FTX are Web 2.5 which are using the Web 2 infrastructure and Web 3 assets to create UI/UX that users can adopt easily.
Conclusion
The question is if Web 2 has monopolies controlling it and Web 3 has too many flaws, how can Web 2.5 be beneficial and flawless? To fully adopt a Web 3 structure, a business model might have to break a few laws, but with Web 2.5, these businesses can follow the Web 2 laws and still offer Web 3 products like NFTs.
